From Needles to HookFROM NEEDLES TO HOOK: Complete Guide to Converting Knit Patterns to Crochet
What a great idea! This book opens up so many more possibilities for the crocheter. No longer limited by using stitch patterns just for crochet, now even knit stitch patterns can be successfully translated into crochet patterns. I liked the side-by-side comparison showing color photos of the finished knit and crochet stitches, and was glad that is explained how to construct both versions. Several projects are also included so that you can practice each technique.157367124X.  8" x 11", hardcover, 192 pages.  $24.95  #139198

Vintage Tatting and Crochet, Book 1VINTAGE TATTING & CROCHET, Bk 1, Ed. Barbara Foster.
This reprint of books written in 1913 and 1917*, is written for crocheters of all skill levels. One caution, though: the instructions are written using British terms i.e. their double crochet is our single, their triple is our double, etc. The photos, for any crocheter of more than minimum experience, are sufficient inspiration to create similar shapes by ad-libbing the actual order, number and kind of stitches used. There are more than 150 designs for edgings, insertions, and medallions. It is left up to the crocheter to develop step-by-step applications of the combinations shown here. Profuse black & white photos, a few line drawings.  *Reprints of Lady Duff-Gordon Book of Crochet Edgings and Insertions (1917) and Old and New Designs in Tatting and Crochet Braids by Sophie T. LaCroix (1913). ISBN: 188343204932 pages, 8½" x 11"  sc, $9.00  #139064

The “practical” knick-knacks you can make from crepe paper—lampshades, flowerpot covers, holders for their feather dusters—are truly astonishing. As with the previous volumes, this one includes numerous projects to knit and crochet, and many are indeed fanciful such as an adorable “Baby’s Glove in Brioche Knitting,” a sweet toy lamb to crochet, and a little vest knitted in one long piece and folded like origami. Ecclesiastical embroidery is presented, as well as exotic Japanese-inspired bead and bamboo curtains.  ISBN: 1-931499-18-7.  Hardbound, 9" x 12".  $30.00  #239007

And for readers who enjoyed the techniques of church decorations, Mountmellick embroidery, and crêpe paper presented in Volume 7, you’ll find more of them in Volume 8.  ISBN: 1-931499-29-2. Hardbound, 9" x 12", 152 pages, 250 original line drawings from the 1800s.  $30.00  #239031

Volume 11, Weldon's Practical NeedleworkWELDON'S PRACTICAL NEEDLEWORK, VOL. 11, from Piecework Magazine.
Okay, most of us are not going to attempt the bent iron work that opens this volume of Weldon's in spite of the editor's statement that "bent iron, as opposed to wrought iron, is admirably adapted for amateur skill..."! But just turn a few pages and you'll find an amazing variety of fun things to create, including more than 140 projects to crochet or knit. Some of the knitted socks in this volume are spectacular—nothing Victorian about them! The man's crocheted vest worked in moss stitch is fashion-runway worthy. The beaded archway curtain is fabulous as are the torch on lace trimmings and the point lace collars. The bent iron work notwithstanding, this volume will bring hours of enjoyment.  Hardbound, 9 x 12, 152 pages, more than 200 black-and-white illustrations, ISBN 1-931499-49-7.  $30.00  #239137
