Foam
Rubber Hat Forms Needle
felting hat forms - needle felt around the form to create a unique, wooly hat!
One edge is sharp, for a hat with a distinct top edge, or use the buffed edge
for a hat with a more rounded top. Now available in a multi-height style
- the 4" height (works
well with the brim, see below) becomes the 5" height (perfect for
toques and rolled brims) by using the form with the height extender that comes
with each form - simply attach the extender to the crown with a felting needle
or T-tack. By felting around the only the edge of the crown, you can also
make earwarmers. This foam is made in part with soybean oil. Designed by Suzanne Higgs.
If you are going to use alpaca or llama fibers, please use small form for best results.
Small form is for heads measuring 20-21 inches.
Medium form is for heads measuring 21-22 and a half inches.
Large form is for heads measuring 22-23.5 inches.
With normal use, each form will last for 10+ hats.
Super
Big Hat Form
This form is designed for the needle felter/hat maker who is interested in going beyond needle felting with the hat forms. The much larger form allows for
extensive wet felting to occur after the needle felting is completed.
During the wet felting one is able to create unique folds and turns into the finished felt.
It is for using very fine fibers only, as they shrink well during the wet
felting. Merino, Merino/Silk, Merino/Tencel, Cormo, and Icelandic fiber
have worked well with this form, but don’t be afraid to try your own fibers. The results using merino can be seen
below. This form also works very well for felt vessels or felt bags using many different fibers. Let the fun begin!
The
hat
is begun on the super big hat form with dry needle felting. Then the needled
fabric is placed over an inflatable ball and wet felted to finish.
Form measures 10" diameter, 11" tall.
Optional accessories:

the Felting Needle
Mat.
