PICTORIAL WEAVINGS OF THE NAVAJO
by Nancy N. Schiffer. Shopworn. Though early Navajo weaving rarely contained pictorial representations of recognizable objects, this situation has been changing dramatically as we enter the 1990s. That is hardly surprising since any art tends to change with the times - some lead, others follow. This book presents you with a fascinating collection of such pictorial weaving, most - but certainly not all, woven in the last 40 years. They still the "look" of Navajo weaving, but they are certainly different from the designs we are used to. This is not a "how-to" book, but one to show you the direction in which Navajo weaving is going today. 64 pages, over 200 color photographs.

Designs include pastel patchwork baby afghan, full size Afghans in soft colors, dramatic black and white, a new take on a ripple pattern, stole and hat, pillow, vest, jacket and man’s pullover. Thoroughly illustrated with full-page color photos of each project.

Eight Shafts: A Place to Begin
By Wanda Jean Shelps and Carolyn Wostenberg.
In style and format, this book closely resembles Davison's "Handweaver's
Pattern Book". For each draft, there's a tie-up, several treadling

swatch. There's a heavy emphasis on twills followed by some color weave
effect, and then a number of shadow weave patterns. Basically this is a
pattern book, and there are few words and many patterns. Looking for an

Smocks: Shire Album 46
by Maggie Hall Shopworn. "The smock-frock was worn by countrymen in
England and Wales during the eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
It was essentially a practical garment and represented a true folk craft
developed by ordinary people. It never became a fashionable garment men
although the technique of smoking has been used on women's and children's
clothes sine the end of the nineteenth century. It was unique in
needlework, being both serviceable and decorative, and the work ranged from the
simple, robust working smock for everyday use to the beautifully and finely made
sock for special occasions." Softcover, 32 pages. Was $9.00,

The Cotton Industry: Shire Album 63 by Chris Aspen.
Shopworn. "Cotton was Britain's largest industry for more than a century
and its principal source of wealth during the Victorian and Edwardian
Eras. Yet, despite its importance, it has attracted few historians.
This book tells the story of the cotton industry from its spectacular growth
during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to its devastating
decline in recent years. The impact of the British cotton trade was
enormous. Goods mass-produced in busy factories undercut all competition
and the industry became the first to make the whole world its market.
Cotton inaugurated a new way of life for the thousands who flocked to the mill
towns of Lancashire and there the world's first industrial society produced a
remarkably wide range of social, religious and political movements, which
profoundly affected the nation's life. Using much previously unpublished
material, the book traces cotton's birth, growth and downfall. The
development of the processes used to transform raw cotton into finished goods is
also well illustrated." Softcover, 32 pages. Was $6.00,

Floral Interpretations for Silk Ribbon
By Helen Dafter
Book is shopworn, but in good condition. "The twelve major ribbon embroideries and associated
smaller flower studies presented in Flora Interpretations for Silk Ribbon are
inspired by photographs taken by author Helen Dafter over the years, and
by delicate watercolour studies painted by her daughter. some of the
flowers are created by the combination of several different stitches, while
others use just one or two basic stitches. Along with detailed
step-by-step stitch instructions and diagrams, and a tracing outline for each
project, the photographs and watercolours on which the designs are based are included
for the embroiderer's enjoyment. Embroiders may choose to reproduce the designs
directly, or perhaps to duplicate and combine some of the flowers to vary a
project and make it their own. The creative techniques revealed in these
projects allow the embroiderer to combine, delete, embellish and enlarge to
whatever scale or size is required."

Tuffer Sampling Cards, Large
Used. They are marked top and bottom. The top card also has
the number "24" on them. The bottom card has a number that also
starts with a "2" but the second digit is so light, it is hard to
tell. Maybe "26"? They look like 75 psi, though I haven't
measured/counted, just visually compared to other handcards. They are not
exactly the same pins - the bottom card has slightly thicker pins.
The cards measure approximately 4-1/4" x 11". Handles extend
another 5-1/4." Pin area measures approximately 10" x
3" and the pins are 3/8" tall. The rubber coating on the
carding cloth is starting to degrade in a few areas (click on photo above for

BOBBIN LACE IN PHOTOGRAPHS,
Cynthia Voysey.
Having had a life-long interest in photography and for the last eighteen years
in lace, it was natural Cynthia Voysey should wish to record those exquisite
pieces of needle and bobbin lace she had seen in private collections and at the
Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter. This she did and her recordings form the basis
of this book. Here she presents the best of bobbin laces form the
seventeenth century to the present day. Each pieces of lace featured is
named and dated; they are in chronological order. The fine detailed
photographs, allow for a close study of each lace and its characteristic
form. Lacemakers of all ages and skills will find this to be a stimulating

Alterknits Felt:
Imaginative Projects for Knitting & Felting, Leigh Radford.
New copies, but the fabric on the binding has faded unevenly.
Now, in AlterKnits Felt, Radford pushes the boundaries of traditional felting, as she did with traditional knitting in her earlier book, AlterKnits. Through 30 colorful, vibrant projects, she shows readers how to knit and then felt their own handiwork, as well as how to create gorgeous felted objects from recycled knits and unspun fiber. An introductory chapter on felting basics explains everything you need to know to make the fabulous clothes, accessories, and home decor that follow. The projects range from a quick and easy circle coin purse, to a shibori bag, to a reverse-appliqué rug, each unusual in its own way, distinguished by a special surface texture, an innovative mix of techniques, or a quirky combination of yarns. AlterKnits Felt provides every crafter with the tools to explore—and expand—the art of felting.

By Sharon Franco Rothschild.

Gather your old sweaters, start your washing machines, and sharpen your scissors . . .
With this guide to redesigning, recycling, and renewing your wool sweaters, you’ll transform knits that have been felted—intentionally or otherwise—into fun, colorful, and eco-conscious sweaters, bags, and accessories.
In Sweater Renewal, Sharon Franco Rothschild goes green in full color, showing you how to rescue your old woolen knits and give them renewed life as felted creations. The 25 colorful, cheerful projects in Sweater Renewal incorporate a diverse range of skills—including felting, appliqué, crochet, sewing, and embroidery—and range from Short, Sweet & Simple Projects using felted sweaters, such as a cell phone holder and a Fair Isle digital camera case, to Knitted, Felted & Fantastic Projects that you knit and then felt, such as a purse and a felted scarf. Most can be finished in less than a day, some in a few hours.
